Tupelo- William "Michael" Smith, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo at the age of 69. He was born on August 15, 1955 to the late William Jolly and Agnes Gullett. Michael had a lifelong passion for music that resonated throughout his community. For the last 10 years, he shared his talent as a pianist with the Over the Hill Gang Band, captivating audiences with every performance. His musical journey also led him to play in the church band at Bissell Baptist Church, where he found purpose in sharing his love for music. Beyond the stage, Michael's heart was as big as his talent. He dedicated 12 years to partnering with Youth Villages, providing foster care to children in need. He also served his community by working for the Pontotoc County Sheriffs Dept for many years. His unwavering commitment to helping others defined him, and many lives were touched by his kindness and compassion. Michael was known for his infectious sense of humor, always ready to lift spirits with a well-timed joke. Though Michael has departed from this world, his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift those who had the privilege to know him. May his music play on in our hearts forever.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2PM on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Mt. Vernon Chapel. A reception will follow the service until 5PM where friends and family are invited to gather, share music, memories, and celebrate the extraordinary life of a man who brought light to so many. Mt. Vernon Chapel is honored to be assisting the family during this time.

Michael is survived by his wife, Kay Smith; daughters, Latrisha Crump(Martin), Kayla Foster, Ravyn Smith, Honna Smith; sister, Serita Murphy; grandchildren, Cade Foster, Hayden Foster, Kaylee Fairley (Caleb), Madison Crump, Gracie Crump, Zoe Crump, Emma Crump, Malachi Crump, Asher Smith, Ashton Smith, Laken Smith, Kyra Stegall; great-grandchildren, Kylo Fairley, Emersyn Fairley, Wilder Fairley, Piper Smith, Jentezen Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Christopher; sister, Cynthia Alred; and grandchild, Jaxtyn Smith.
